Why restore Roland E. Cook Elementary School into living spaces?

By transforming the former classrooms and common spaces of Roland E. Cook into apartments, we’ve been able to restore a beloved Vinton landmark while giving it new use for the new century. We’ve worked hard to maintain and preserve the historical character and features of the building, such as the original hardwood floors and towering ceilings, while still employing modern design and thoughtful craftsmanship throughout the new apartments.

When do you plan on opening?

We plan to open Roland E. Cook Lofts early this summer.

What’s included in each apartment?

All apartments and lofts are built with brand-new energy efficient windows, a fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and a washer/dryer. Each apartment also comes with its own HVAC unit for heating and cooling.

What’s around?

Roland E. Cook Lofts are located in the heart of historic downtown Vinton. Great cafes and restaurants, like authentic Thai cuisine at Red Jasmine or Vinton’s famous Dogwood Restaurant, are right in your own backyard. Fantastic retail stores and a brand new, state-of-the-art library are only a short walk from the school. Also, nearby public transportation offers access to Downtown Roanoke and other hotspots within the Roanoke Valley.

What’s included in the rent?

Water, sewer, and trash collection are included in your monthly rent. Electricity and cable/internet are billed independently.

How long is the lease?

We offer 12 month leases on our lofts and apartments.

Are pets allowed?

Cats, small dogs, and other non-intrusive pets are allowed at the discretion of the building’s owners. A pet deposit of $200 is required with your first month’s rent and will be returned, partially or in-full, depending on the wear caused by the pets.

How do I apply?

To apply, complete our application and submit a fully-refundable $100 deposit. Upon completion of the apartments, deposit holders – arranged by the date of deposit submission – will have their choice of apartment.
